About the Owners

Meet the Ugstad Family
We’re the Ugstad family — Dan, Angela, and our two kids — and we’re proud to call the Cuyuna area home. Long before we ever dreamed of running a campground, we spent years visiting Angela’s family cabin and exploring the lakes, trails, and small towns that make this place so special. Over time, Cuyuna became more than a getaway. It felt like home. In 2020, we made the leap and moved here full‑time.

How Our Campground Came to Be
That same winter, we purchased the wooded land that is now Cuyuna Range Campground. We immediately saw its potential: tall trees, quiet surroundings, and a location close to everything we loved — biking, paddling, fishing, local shops, and the charm of Crosby and nearby towns. We knew we wanted to create something that didn’t exist in the area yet: a peaceful, wooded RV campground with full hookups, privacy, and space to breathe.
A trip to Denali National Park in Alaska in 2021 inspired us even more. The spacious, wooded campsites there reminded us how good camping can feel when nature is the focus. We came home determined to build a place with that same state‑park‑style atmosphere — simple, quiet, and surrounded by trees.

A Family‑Run Campground
Today, our family of four runs the campground together. The kids (now 8 and 11) are at the perfect age to jump in and help — stacking firewood, checking sites after guests leave, chatting with campers, and learning what it means to care for a place and a community. Dan and Angela handle everything from the hands‑on work to the behind‑the‑scenes tasks like reservations, social media, and keeping the campground running smoothly.

Why We Love This Area
When we’re not working, you’ll usually find us outside. Kayaking (especially sunrise paddles for Angela), mountain and paved‑trail biking, fishing, boating, and hiking — really anything that gets us into the woods or on the water. We also love visiting the farmers markets in Crosby and Deerwood and supporting the local restaurants and shops that make this area so vibrant.

Our Hope for Your Stay
Our hope is that guests leave feeling relaxed, refreshed, and reconnected — like they were able to step away from the noise of everyday life and enjoy the woods without sacrificing the convenience of full hookups. We don’t offer golf carts, pools, playgrounds, or scheduled activities. Instead, we offer quiet, space, trees, and a simple basecamp for whatever adventures you choose.
Proud to Be a Local, Family‑Owned Business
We’re incredibly proud to be a local, family‑owned small business in the Cuyuna area. The support from this community has been strong and uplifting, and we’re grateful every day to be part of it.
Thank you for being part of our story — we’re grateful for every guest who chooses to stay with us.
